Sheffield, Ala. – Wednesday, November 6, 2012 – Bank Independent awarded $3,500 in scholarship money to a University of North Alabama student during the Bank Independent Halftime Challenge on Saturday. Coleman Barron, a junior from Pickwick Dam, TN, won the halftime challenge at the final UNA home football game, taking home the semester’s worth of tuition after competing against three other UNA students for the grand prize. The Bank Independent-sponsored event brought together the four UNA students who participated throughout the season in the Bank Independent halftime challenge, each winning $400 for their first place finish in the competition and the opportunity to compete in the final game for $3,500 in scholarship money. The four students competed to see who could throw the most footballs into the ring in 30 seconds, with Coleman taking the grand prize with nine balls through the hoop. Bank Independent President Macke Mauldin was at the game to present the large check to Coleman during halftime. “We want to congratulate Coleman and all of the other competitors who were great participants throughout the season,” says Macke. “It’s been another great experience to work with the University of North Alabama and its students through this halftime challenge. We’re looking forward to future partnerships with UNA to help support our local community and college students.” This is Bank Independent’s second year to partner with UNA for the scholarship money giveaway. Bank Independent and UNA collaborated throughout the 2012 football season to give away prizes on campus prior to the game and during halftime of the home football games.
