Bank Independent Volunteers at Loaves and Fishes

  • Florence, Ala. – Friday, June 22 – Serving others and the local community is the heart of Bank Independent and the Bank Independent team. Operation Helping Hands, a Bank Independent sponsored initiative that encourages its team members to volunteer in the local community, provided 32 hours of service, with four local Bank Independent team members donating their time to Loaves and Fishes, a local ministry.

On Tuesday, June 12, Mike Underwood, Josh Dodd, Margaritta Jones and Tammy Sappington each donated eight hours of their work day to help at the Loaves and Fishes Warehouse. As volunteers, they helped organize groceries, sorting and boxing the items to be delivered to those in need. It was through their time volunteering that the Bank Independent team’s eyes were opened to the many people who are in need in their community.

“The warehouse was packed from floor to ceiling, with boxes of anything you could think of,” shared Bank Independent volunteer, Mike Underwood. “It was humbling to think of how the toothpaste, peanut butter and other items that we sorted and boxed would be a blessing to someone. It surely makes you appreciate the blessings you have.”

Operation Helping Hands is one of many ways that the Shoals area Bank Independent branches encourage service within their bank and instills in every team member the importance of giving back to their local community.

“As a local bank, we encourage every team member to serve and give back to their community, and that’s what Operation Helping Hands is all about,” explains Bank Independent Shoals Area President Bill Howard. “It has always been our top priority to invest in the Shoals area and to help it continue to grow and thrive. Whether investing our time, money or effort, giving back to the local community is something we have always done and will continue to do.”
