Killen Sales Office Honors Lions Club

  • Killen, Ala. – Monday, August 19, 2013 – The theme and focus of this weekend’s Killen Founders Day events, “Honoring the Lions Club,” is one that is particularly exciting to the employees, customers and friends of the town’s Bank Independent sales office.

For over ten years, the Bank Independent branch located on Highway 72 in Killen has been a donation point for the Lions Club eyeglass recycling project, and has collected hundreds of pairs of glasses from folks in the community.

“We’re proud to have been a longtime partner of the local Lions Club,” says Bill Howard, Bank Independent Shoals Area President.  “Our Bank’s mission is to give back to the communities we serve, and hosting a Lions Club collection box in our branch is just one way we can do that. We appreciate the Town of Killen’s decision to honor this worthy organization.”

According to the Lions Club International website, the cost for the Lions Club to recycle each pair of eyewear is less than eight cents.  The recycled glasses are then distributed by the Lions Club to visually impaired recipients throughout the world.

Howard and Bank Independent’s Killen employees hope that the town’s Founders Day events will continue to raise awareness of the wonderful work of the Lions Club.  Bank Independent is a sponsor of the festivities which will include a 5k race, car show and opening ceremony parade, where Lions Club members will serve as Grand Marshals.
