Who can use Bank Independent text banking?Text banking is available to any Bank Independent customer who is enrolled in Online Banking and has texting capabilities on a mobile device.
What services does text banking offer? When using the SMS text messaging feature on your mobile phone you can check account balances and transaction history. Text banking will provide you with the last four transactions on your account(s) within the last 15 days.
What is the cost associated with text banking?Bank Independent does not charge for text banking services. However, your wireless carrier’s text messaging fees and charges may apply.
Do I need a smart phone to sign up for text banking? No, because virtually every mobile phone or mobile device on the market today is capable of sending and receiving SMS text messages. You must simply have text messaging available through your mobile device.
How do I get started using text banking? It’s easy! Simply log in to Bank Independent Online Banking, click on the Settings tab, select “Mobile Settings” then go to “Text Mobile Settings” to enroll.
Do I have to enroll in Mobile Banking in order to use text banking? No, you can enroll in either service, or enroll in both.
What is the difference between Mobile Banking and text banking?Mobile Banking provides more functionality than text banking. For example, with Mobile Banking you are able to submit transfers and locate a branch or ATM near you. Text banking provides only SMS text messages that contain balance information and transaction history (your last four transactions). In addition, Mobile Banking requires you to authenticate your identity using your Online Banking User ID and password, while text banking does not.
How does text banking work? You simply text a short command to Bank Independent’s SMS short code, BIBNK (24265 on your keypad), and you will receive a return text with your requested information.
What are the commands for text banking? The current text banking commands are:
When you enroll in text banking within Online Banking you’ll be prompted to assign “short names” to your accounts for use with these text commands. For example, you may assign the short name “FAM” to your family checking account. Then, to retrieve the balance of your family checking account, simply text the command “BAL FAM” to BIBNK, or to retrieve the history of that account, text the command “HIST FAM.”
What accounts can I access with text banking?Any account you can access in Online Banking will be available with text banking. During the text banking enrollment process, you will choose the accounts you’d like to access, and assign a short name to each one.
Should I save the Bank Independent short code to my contacts listing in my phone? If you wish to add the BIBNK short code to your contacts list, please use a generic label for security purposes.
Is the information delivered through text banking secure?Because the content of text messages is generally accessible to anyone who may have access to your mobile device, the information in the text messages you receive from Bank Independent does not include any personally identifiable information. However, your text messages will store the balances and account history you are requesting. For that reason, we recommend you delete your text banking messages after you have received them.
