    Lost or Stolen Card 

    If you've lost your Bank Independent debit card or if it has been stolen, immediately call Independent Express at (866) 478-5010, choose Option 5 then Option 1.   Or speak with a Customer Service Representative Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. by calling (877) 865-5050 or (256) 386-5000.

    Q: Why is the Bank Independent debit card better than an ATM card? 

    A: Not only can you use your Bank Independent debit card at thousands of ATM/POS terminals, you can make purchases at any merchant that accepts Visa. This means you can access your checking account without having to write a check. 

    Q: Who do I call if I've lost my Bank Independent debit card or if it has been stolen?

    A: Call Customer Service Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. at  (877) 865-5050 or (256) 386-5000. After hours you may call our debit card hotline at (800) 554-8969, or call Independent Express at (866) 478-5010, choose Option 5 then Option 1. Your card will be cancelled and a new one will be sent to you quickly. We will also work with you to ensure that your accounts are safe and secure. 

    Q: How do I activate my new Bank Independent debit card?

    A: There are several ways to activate your new card: 1. Log in to Online Banking, go to Settings, then choose Check Card (for activation only; this will not create a PIN for you.) 2. Perform a transaction at any ATM (if you have been provided a new PIN via separate mailing), 3. Swipe your card as a debit transaction for any purchase and enter your PIN (if you have been provided a new PIN in a separate mailing), or 3. Call Customer Service Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at (877) 865-5050 or (256) 386-5000.

    Q: What account will my Bank Independent debit card access? 

    A: After you use your card at a merchant or ATM/POS terminal, the funds will be debited from your designated checking account (just as if you wrote a check).

    Q: If the business won't accept checks, will they accept my debit card?

    A: YES! If the business accepts Visa for payment, they will accept your Bank Independent debit card.

    Q: Am I charged any interest fees for items I purchase from merchants?

    A: NO. There are no interest charges because, unlike a credit card, you are paying for the merchandise with your money in your checking account.

    Q: If I make a purchase with my Bank Independent debit card, will I have a record?

    A: YES! In addition to the merchant receipt you receive at the time of sale, your purchase will be listed on your bank statement.

    Q: Is there a fee for using my debit card?

    A: Bank Independent imposes no fees* if you use your card to make a purchase or if you use your card at an ATM belonging to Bank Independent.

    * There is no fee for using your Bank Independent Debit Card for transactions at any Bank Independent ATM. However, there may be a fee charged for transactions made at non-Bank Independent ATMs.
